We were lucky enough to get our hands on this miniature wireless device recently and put it to the test. Check out our review to find out how it performed.

The good people at WirelessGround.com sent us the Quickcell Q7 Bluetooth Wireless Mini Headset for review.

Quickcell Q7 Box and Packaging.

The outer packaging was quite secure with adhesive tape all over but I was, nonetheless, expecting the product’s box to be sealed as well. It was not, and neither is the plastic shell containing the headset, AC and USB chargers, two ear hooks, and manual. At any rate, since the Quickcell Q7 Midnight Bluetooth Wireless Mini Headset was being given to me free, it’s not something I will complain about. Besides, everything that the box said it contained was in the shell, all looking brand new.

The first thing I thought when I opened the box is “It is small.” I actually measured it with my caliper and indeed it is 1.0″ x 0.5″, making it one of the world’s smallest Bluetooth headsets. The circular earpiece is about 0.5″ in diameter and is mounted on the upper section. At its stem, where it connects to the main body, is the port for the chargers. Below it is a Q7 logo. The microphone is a tiny hole on the lower end of the body. An elongated multi-function switch bisects the part opposite the earpiece. I don’t have a device to measure its weight, but holding it my hands, I can readily believe it to be 4.5 grams.

Quickcell Q7 Box and Contents

The manual said that initial charging could take up to two hours, but the blue light below the multifunction switch indicating full charge came on in less than one hour. In the meantime, I read the included manual two times over just to make sure I understood it. With the Q7, it is not only the earphones that are small. So is the manual. It felt like I was reading the fine print on some insurance policy. I did manage to read it though.

Once the headset was fully charged, I got to work. Pairing it with my Samsung cell phone was quick and easy. After activating it by pressing the switch and waiting for the blue light to turn on, I turned to my phone and activated its Bluetooth connectivity, searched for Bluetooth devices within reach, and selected Q7. It prompted me for a PIN and I just keyed “0000″ as instructed by the manual and printed on the box. That’s it. My phone and the headset were linked.

Q7 Mini Headset out of the package.

I initially did not bother with the ear hooks. I inserted the headset into my ear and started dialing. I talked at length with my friend telling him I was testing a Q7 Headset and I noted that the sound at my end was quite clear with no background noise whatsoever. It did sound a bit muffled but it is barely noticeable and I clearly understood everything my friend was saying. I walked from my phone while talking but at about 25 feet, my friend said I was beginning to sound garbled. At 30 feet, I was disconnected from my phone. And that was in open space. With a wall between me and the phone, distance was reduced to roughly 15 feet.

Q7 Bluetooth Wireless Mini Headset Closeup

Reconnecting with my phone, I made a few more calls, this time using the ear hooks with the headset. It fit perfectly. I’ve tried other ear hooks before and they irritated my ears but not this one. After more than an hour, I still didn’t feel anything. Even with the headset, it is so light that you can actually forget you are wearing it. I decided I’d always wear the ear hooks when using the Q7.

Just to find out if the redialing function works with the headset and my phone, I pressed the switch for about 2 seconds and the phone redialed the last number I called.

I like the Q7. The best thing about it is its size and weight. Personally, I don’t feel very comfortable with a large device hanging from my ear looking like it is glued to my face. The Q7 barely goes beyond my tragus (the tongue-like projection at the front of the outer ear). The earpiece rests just outside the ear canal so it does not isolate other sounds. It is encased in a removable rubber cap with a looped attachment. I figure this is for easy removal if you want to clean it. At any rate, the casing is what makes the earpiece comfortable as it is worn inside the ear. I don’t really make nor get that many calls but I have been using the headset for over three days, and I haven’t had the need to recharge it.

If you’re interested in the Quikcell Q7 Mini Bluetooth Headset or other great mobile accessories then WirelessGround.com may just have what you’re looking for.

Listening to stereo music and making mobile phone calls can be done in style with Sony Ericsson Stereo Bluetooth Headset HBH-DS980. With its Bluetooth 2.0 wireless technology, this sleek and stylish headset delivers great music as well as makes and receives mobile phone calls wirelessly.

The HBH-DS980 streams stereo music from your audio device to binaural ear bud speakers that are made of soft silicon. Its support of A2DP or Advanced Audio Distribution Profile provides excellent music quality. The ear buds remain comfortable in the ears even after hours of use. They are also designed in a way that they isolate outside noise. The headset has a digital echo and noise cancellation feature that further reduce background noise. These features result to superior sound quality.

The headset’s support of Bluetooth 2.0 strengthens its connectivity with Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. This eliminates static and interruptions during phone calls. The music mutes if a call comes in so you won’t have to miss any message. This is possible because the HBH-DS980 can connect to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. Controls on the earpiece allow you to either reject or accept the call, and adjust volume levels.

The HBH-DS980 features a hidden magic mirror display. This is an OLED display, brighter than an LCD, that becomes visible only when activated. It shows Bluetooth status, caller ID, phonebook, and battery strength.

JayBird Freedom JB200 is a behind the ear Bluetooth headset with in-ear style earphones. It is designed to provide streaming stereo music and to make phone calls while you are mobile either around your house or office, running at the tracks or working out at the gym.

The headset is small, lightweight, and comfortable to wear. Unlike other headsets it does not have a bar connecting the two earphones running along your nape. Instead, it has a soft and supple wire that is barely noticeable. Also, gasket seals and rubber overmolds keep sweat and water out. The section that goes over the ear is rubberized making it soft and comfortable. These features make the JB200 perfect for both athletes and weekend warriors who need some motivational music keep them moving.

The JB200 features neodymium drivers which produce excellent bass and audio. An integrated microphone equipped with the proprietary Clear Voice Capture Technology assures clear and distinct voice when making or taking phone calls. Should you happen to be listening to music when a call comes in, it automatically pauses and resumes after the call is terminated. Full control of music and calls are included in the headphones. You can adjust the volume, play, forward, backtrack, or pause your music. You can also accept or reject a call. An of course you can shut the device off.

With its Bluetooth 2.0 protocol and its support of A2DP, hands-free, and headset profiles, the JB200 can connect with plenty of Bluetooth-enabled MP3 players and mobile phones. For non-Bluetooth devices, a universal adapter is available from JayBird to enable the connection. For iPod users, an adapter specifically designed for their player is also available.

With the JVC Stereo Bluetooth Headset, model HA-W700BT, you can enjoy listening to stereo music and talking with your business colleagues or friends without worrying about wires getting tangled as you walk or workout.

The HA-W700BT supports Bluetooth 2.0 and A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP profiles making it compatible with a long list of Bluetooth-enabled audio devices and mobile phones. An optional transmitter, the AA-T100BT, is also available for compatibility with fourth-generation and later iPod models.

The headset consists of binaural in-ear earphones and a Bluetooth receiver. Eleven-millimeter neodymium driver units that deliver a frequency range of 10Hz to 23 kHz guarantee clear, crisp, and distinct stereo sound from the earphones. The receiver is small and comes with a clip. It is also lightweight making it convenient to wear. Control buttons incorporated into it allow you to play, pause, stop, or skip tracks without touching your audio player or mobile phone.

You can also listen to the music files stored in your portable device on your home entertainment system. All you need to do is unplug the earphones and connect the Bluetooth receiver to your home system using a mini jack.

A lithium-ion rechargeable battery built into the receiver can supply enough power to last up to 11 hours of continuous music playback. A battery charging stand comes with the unit.

The IOGear Bluetooth Audio Transport allows you to listen to music from Bluetooth enabled audio devices, whether portable or not, such as MP3s, CD players, computers, or PDAs without any wired connection to them. In addition to this, it also allows you to make or receive calls from a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone using the integrated microphone. You can be as far as 10 meters from the music machines and still enjoy MP3-quality stereo sound, or from your cell phone and still have a clear and distinct conversation with a caller.

Simply clip the receiver on your shirt and plug in the speakers into your ears. These are both lightweight that it is easy to forget you have them on. The receiver integrates a control joystick that allows you to play, pause, or stop the music; adjust volume up and down; and advance to the next track, or back it up. The speakers are of a binaural ear bud type. They deliver clear and crisp stereo sound with frequencies ranging from 20Hz to 20KHz.

The Audio Transport’s protocol is a Bluetooth 1.2. It is compatible with A2DP and AVRCP. It also works with headset and hands-free profiles.

A built-in rechargeable battery supplies power to the device for up to six hours of music playing.

The Sony DR-BT160IK consists of a Bluetooth headset (DR-BT160AS) using Version 2.0+EDR and a wireless transmitter/receiver (TMR-BT8iP) for iPod or iPhone. The headset allows you to listen to the audio files stored in your Bluetooth Stereo-enabled audio device as well as to talk on your cell phone with Bluetooth capabilities, sans wires. This is possible even if your music player or phone is in your backpack or briefcase, or 10 meters away from you. If you have an iPod or an iPhone without built-in Bluetooth, plugging the transmitter/receiver into them enables a connection with the Sony headset.

The speakers on the headset are ear bud types with a bullet shape that are designed to block out outside sound without getting into the ear canal. These improve sonic quality as well as wearing comfort. The ear buds are attached to an earpiece shaft that is adjustable thus allowing it to match different ear sizes. The shaft, in turn, is connected to a behind-the-neck support that provides a secure fit even when working out in the gym or running along tracks or trails. Such support is made of soft elastomer making it flexible and comfortable to wear.

You can control your music player remotely through the headset via the Bluetooth connection. Buttons are incorporated into it allowing you to play, pause, skip, reverse, fast forward, or stop the music. When making a cell phone call, an embedded omni directional microphone allows hands-free conversation.

Power is supplied by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery in the headset. It has an approximate life of seven hours of continuous music playback. When fully drained, it takes 2.5 hours to a full charge.

With the HP Bluetooth Pendant Headphone, you can privately listen to music from your laptop, MP3 player, home entertainment system, or car stereo without the hassle of wires running from them to your head phones. This means you can move around freely without having to remove your headphones. You can leave your music room or your den for a cup of coffee or a bottle of beer and not miss any track from your music collections.

The device is lightweight, weighing a shade less than 6 ounces. It consists of ear bud phones that provide excellent sound quality, and an audio receiver and streamer. The receiver connects with the ear phones through widget-managed wires that also incorporate a volume control mechanism. The ear phones can be removed and may be used with other audio systems. Likewise, the audio receiver can also be connected to other devices with speaker systems, including your home stereo.

The HP Bluetooth Pendant Headphone can receive signals from any audio device that is enabled with Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate or EDR. If such a device is not equipped with Bluetooth connectivity but has a 3.5 audio port, a supplied transmitter can be plugged into it to allow the wireless transmission of sound to the headphones.

Listening to a full stereo and answering your cell phone while you are on the go need not be hampered by having to manipulate so many devices and having to contend with some many wire connections. The Plantronics BackBeat 906 eliminates these issues.

With its Bluetooth connectivity, the BackBeat 906 connects to mobile phones and all types of MP3 players including the automobile-mounted kind that are Bluetooth-enabled. If your media player does not have Bluetooth, such as iPod, you only need to plug a Bluetooth adapter into its 3.5 mm jack.

The BackBeat’s dual 14 mm speakers and its bass-boost feature, combined with Altech Lansing sound technology, provide excellent music. When on the cell phone, its dual-mic AudioIQ processes both incoming and outgoing digital signals. This leads to clearer and improved audio levels for both parties.

When sourcing music from media players or taking calls from cell phones that support AVRCP Bluetooth profile, you can exercise full functional control using the BackBeat. It incorporates buttons for play and pause, base boost, volume and track control, and call mute.

If you need to talk to someone in person, or you just need to home in on an outside sound, you do not have to remove your ear buds. Simply push a button to activate the OpenMic technology. With this activated, the microphone picks up outside sound that are relayed to the ear buds.

The contoured ear buds of the BackBeat are made of a flexible material that adapts to your ear’s shape. They weigh only a little over an ounce. They are also adjustable either by telescoping in or out, or swiveling on their anchors. The two ear buds and their anchors are joined by a soft neckband that can be folded for convenient storage. These features make the headphones very comfortable to wear even for extended periods.

The Coby CV-E162 Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Earphones frees your hands while you are talking on your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone so you can multi-task and keep on doing whatever it is you are doing. You may be writing, tapping away at your laptop keyboards, or working with a hammer or a wrench. You don’t have to drop your tools just to talk on your phone.

You can also continue listening to your favorite music as you walk around the house or office without bothering other people. The CV-E162 supports wireless stereo music from laptops, cellular phones, and PDAs that support A2DP for stereo audio, AVRCP for remote control, and Bluetooth headset. A universal A2DP Adapter is also included with the CV –E162. This adapter can convert most audio devices to an A2DP profile enabling their audio to be transmitted to the earphones.

If your cellular phone supports hands-free profiles, you can access all its controls using the CV-E162. You can choose to reject, answer, or terminate a call without ever touching, or even seeing, your phone. If you happen to be listening to music when a call comes in, you can pause and later resume it when you are done talking. Volume level and mute buttons are incorporated in the dongle that comes with the earphones.

An integrated rechargeable battery powers the CV-E162.

Motorola’s Motorokr S9-HD is a slender and lightweight headset, weighing only 1.14 ounces, that is perfectly suited for the mobile user. Whether you are commuting in the city or running along mountain trails, the S9-HD is a perfect companion. Another feature that makes it perfect for walking or running is that it resists sweat and water.

The headset is constructed in a way that it is worn from the back of your head instead of at the top. The headset’s arms extend from your back and rests over your ear, much like eyeglass arms except that they are coming from behind the head. They curve downwards from the front of your ears and end with 13 mm ear bud speakers.

The speakers rest just outside the ear canal. Although they do not block outside sounds and may even be heard by someone sitting next to you, the sound quality is pretty decent with a good base and treble.

Volume, track selection, play and pause, and answer and hang up phone control buttons are all mounted on the S9-HD’s arms. A light press activates these buttons. This avoids inadvertently dislodging the earphones.

The S9-HD connects to your iPod through the D650 Adapter. You need only to plug the Adapter into your media player. Its Bluetooth Version 2.0 technology takes care of the rest. It supports HF 1.2, A2DP 1.2, and AVCRP 1.0 profiles and has a range of approximately 10 meters. It also connects well with cell phones other than Motorola with a minimum of static or other disturbances.
